Lewis, who once lit up TV screens with her bold voice and presence, had been battling cancer since 2020.

She revealed that she was diagnosed with Stage III breast cancer after avoiding mammograms for years out of fear of radiation.

In October 2024, she shared more about her fight during an interview on Good Morning America, saying she was later diagnosed with Stage IV cancer.

“I couldn’t handle doing such a drastic surgery in my life at that time,” she said, referring to a recommended double mastectomy.

“I was a stay-at-home mom, homeschooling my son. Cancer doesn’t come and replace all the other stuff you have to do.”

Ananda Lewis’s death is being mourned across the entertainment world, especially among fans of the shows she once led with passion.

She hosted BET’s Teen Summit for three seasons, then became a household name during her time with MTV on Total Request Live and Hot Zone.

In 2001, she left MTV to host her own talk show, using her voice to spark change and raise awareness on important issues.

Despite her illness, Lewis remained deeply involved in her treatment and health journey.

She explained that her choice not to undergo early mammograms came from personal observation.

“I didn’t do them because my mom did, and she still got breast cancer,” she said.

However, she made it clear she had not ignored her health.

“I didn’t turn my back on medicine,” she said.
She was being monitored by doctors while undergoing targeted chemotherapy and making serious changes to her diet.

BET honored her legacy with a heartfelt tribute, writing on Instagram:
“As the host of BET’s Teen Summit, she didn’t just lead conversations she sparked change, empowering a generation to speak up, love themselves, and think deeper.”

The post continued, “Ananda brought brilliance, beauty, and authenticity to every space she entered.

Her impact lives on through the countless lives she touched, both on and off screen.”

Ananda Lewis wanted to be remembered not just for her work, but for how she lived.

In her final interview with GMA, she shared a powerful message:
“That I loved hard, and lived loud, and didn’t back away from problems. And loved this life and was OK with letting it go too.”

Her passing is truly painful. We pray that her soul finds eternal rest.
