The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has rebuked the presidency over remarks suggesting President Bola Tinubu could remain in office until 2031.
The comments, made by Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) George Akume, urged northern political leaders to abandon their ambitions for the 2027 presidency and wait for Tinubu’s presumed second term to conclude.
Speaking through its National Publicity Secretary, Tukur Muhammad-Baba, the ACF criticized the administration for prioritizing election discussions over pressing governance issues.
Muhammad-Baba emphasized the importance of focusing on delivering good governance and addressing Nigeria’s economic and social challenges rather than engaging in early political debates.
“This talk of 2027 is too early, and it’s a distraction to the dialogue that should be taking place. Is democracy paying off for the people? This is what should preoccupy the minds of Nigerians, not the 2027 presidency,” he stated.
