Tanker loaded with fuel exploded on Sunday around Lafenwa area of Abeokuta, Ogun state.
According to a source who disclosed that the tanker overturned around 04.45am while making its way from Oju-Irin, Lafenwa area of Abeokuta.
Confirming the incident to newsmen, a spokesperson from Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi, said the tanker was engulfed in fire due to the uncooperative attitude of people around the axis who were scooping fuel and other unwholesome act which sparked the explosion.
According to Mr Akinbiyi who said transloading was in progress, warning the general public, particularly the motoring public domiciled or moving around the axis to remain calm and cooperative.
He also warned the public to avoid scooping of fuel, use of handset and cooking gas so as not to spark off a fire.”
It was revealed that the fallen tanker exploded in the course of the rescue operation.
It is not ascertain the number of casualties at the time of filing this report.
It is advised that motorists going inward Rounder axis from Lafenwa to use Olomore and Oke-Ata axis as alternative routes.
Also confirming the Incident is the Commander of the states FRSC Sector, Mr Ahmed Umar, who said that officers of the command are around to control traffic.
Unfortunately some shops in the axis were affected by the fire.
