President Buhari grants Godswill Akpabio’s N20bn for the East- West Road. Apparently the project which was initially awarded in 2006 by the Olusegun Obasanjo administration but driven by the YarAdua/ Jonathan administrations.
A 657-kilometre dual carriageway project, stretching from Calabar in Cross River State to Warri in Delta State, was valued at N726 billion at the time and approved by the federal government at the height of agitations by youths in the Niger Delta.
Concerns have been raised in the Government circle over the approval to release ₦20bn to the Minister of the Niger Delta Affairs, who is currently being probed of mismanagement at NDDC under the supervision of Akpabio.
However, stakeholders in the oil-rich region are afraid that the ₦20bn might disappear just like the billions of Naira mismanaged funds of the NDDC over the last seven months.
