IGP Disu Meets INTERPOL Chief in France Over Cross-Border Crime

Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has met INTERPOL Secretary-General Valdecy Urquiza in Lyon, France.

The meeting focused on stronger international cooperation against crimes that cross national borders.

The IGP Disu INTERPOL meeting also explored ways to improve Nigeria’s fight against cybercrime, terrorism and organised crime.

The meeting took place on Monday at the INTERPOL General Secretariat. Nigeria Police Force spokesman Anietie Okokon Edem Iniedu

disclosed the development.

Discussions covered several areas of policing, including financial crime and fugitive tracking.

The officials also considered better intelligence sharing between Nigerian authorities and international law enforcement agencies.

Another key issue was the effective use of INTERPOL databases and other policing tools.

The meeting also reviewed Nigeria’s involvement in INTERPOL-backed programmes.

Both sides explored additional areas where technical and operational support could improve policing efforts.

The Nigeria Police Force said stronger global cooperation would help tackle changing security threats.

It also stressed the need to prevent criminal groups from operating across national borders.

The police said technology, intelligence and international partnerships remain important in addressing modern crime.

In a statement, the force confirmed that the visit was Disu’s first official trip to the INTERPOL General Secretariat since becoming IGP.

“The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, today, 5th October 2026, paid his maiden official visit as Inspector-General of Police to the INTERPOL General Secretariat in Lyon, France.

“The IGP was accompanied by AIG Olaolu Adegbite, Head, INTERPOL Nigeria and National Central Bureau, Abuja; AIG Ezima Akaninyene Ifem, Director, Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre; AIG Akoh Benedict Gabriel, Head, Nigeria Police Counter Terrorism Unit; and CP Ojajuni Olubode, INTERPOL Africa Committee Member.”
