IGP Disu Orders Fresh Probe Into Mohbad’s Death

The family of late singer Mohbad has secured a fresh step in its search for answers about his death.

Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu has approved the family’s petition for a new investigation.

The petition has now been sent to the Lagos State Police Command for further action.

The family confirmed the development through its lawyer, Oladayo Ogungbe.

His statement was dated September 29, 2026, following recent developments in a separate court case.

The Aloba family submitted its petition to the IGP on April 14. Police headquarters received it on May 7.

The petition raised concerns about issues found during the earlier investigation.

It also requested a detailed forensic review of the events surrounding Mohbad’s death.

The matter has since been assigned to officers from the Special Enquiry Bureau.

A representative of the family has already met with the new investigators.

“The family’s representative has since been invited and has engaged with the new team of investigators assigned to the matter,” Ogungbe said.

The family said it remains in contact with the officers handling the case.

The development came shortly after the Federal High Court in Abuja dismissed a separate suit.

That case was filed by the Registered Trustees of Break the Silence Foundation.

The group had asked the court to compel police authorities to reopen investigations into Mohbad’s death.

However, the Aloba family stressed that it was not behind the court case.

It also said the dismissal did not stop the investigation launched through its own petition.

“The Aloba Family therefore does not wish the public to conflate the dismissal of that suit with the separate investigative process already commenced pursuant to the Family’s petition to the Inspector-General of Police,” the statement said.

The family promised to provide documents, information, witnesses and other materials needed by investigators.

It also urged the police to handle the case with independence, care and professionalism.

The family said it was not interested in “trial by media” but wanted a clear and transparent process.

The Mohbad fresh investigation remains ongoing as investigators examine the circumstances surrounding his death.

“The re-investigation is ongoing. The Aloba Family remains fully engaged. The pursuit of justice for Mohbad continues,” the statement concluded.

Mohbad died on September 12, 2023, aged 27. His death sparked widespread public concern and calls for answers.
