The families of 19 police officers who died in service have received a financial boost in Kwara State.
The Kwara State Police Command presented cheques worth N10.6 million to the affected families.
The payment was made under the Nigeria Police Force Group Life Assurance Scheme.
Commissioner of Police Ojo Adekimi presented the cheques on behalf of Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu.
The presentation took place at the command headquarters in Ilorin.
Adekimi urged the beneficiaries to use the money carefully, especially for their children’s welfare and education.
He said the support could not replace the loved ones they lost.
However, he said the gesture showed that the police had not forgotten their sacrifices.
“While no financial assistance can replace a loved one, this gesture demonstrates that the sacrifices of our deceased officers and the welfare of their dependants remain important to the Nigeria Police Force,” he said.
The commissioner also praised the IGP for continuing welfare programmes for families of deceased officers.
According to the command, the Kwara Police compensation is designed to provide relief to the dependants.
The families of the fallen officers were also encouraged to use the funds for important family needs.
Speaking for the 19 beneficiaries, M.T. Moshood thanked the police leadership for the assistance.
Moshood said the intervention showed that families of officers who died serving Nigeria had not been forgotten.
The command said it would continue supporting police personnel and their families.
