The All Progressives Congress (APC) has refused to congratulate Ademola Adeleke after his victory in the Osun governorship election.
The party says it wants to carefully examine the results before deciding its next move.
Oluwole Oke, Director-General of the APC campaign in Osun, disclosed this during an interview with Arise News.
Oke said the party was reviewing the entire election process and would not rush into accepting the outcome.
“And like I’ve told you that what we are doing, even for future, for records, is to conduct a thorough review of the entire process and then form our opinion.”
He said the APC would not allow pressure to influence its decision on whether to congratulate Adeleke.
“We won’t be under any sort of pressure to easily reach out to congratulate Senator Ademola Adeleke.”
Oke also questioned the results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
“We do not agree with the declaration of INEC. That’s our position for now. We believe he did not score the highest valid votes.” he said.
INEC declared Adeleke the winner after he secured 511,067 votes in the August 15 election.
The APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, finished second with 444,815 votes.
ADC candidate Najeem Salaam came third after recording 17,180 votes.
Adeleke won 19 local government areas, while Oyebamiji secured victories in 11. The result gave Adeleke a margin of 66,252 votes over his closest challenger.
However, the Osun election results remain under review by the APC as the party considers its next step.
