Jos Curfew Relaxed as Calm Returns After Deadly Attacks

The Plateau State Government has eased the curfew in Jos North following signs of calm after recent violence.

The revised Jos curfew relaxation now allows movement between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Meanwhile, restrictions will remain in place from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. daily.

This development comes after days of fear and uncertainty in the area.

According to a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Joyce Ramnap, the new directive takes effect from April 8, 2026.

Residents were advised to carry out only lawful activities during the approved hours. In addition, strict compliance with the curfew rules has been strongly emphasized.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang has also directed security agencies to enforce the new measures. Therefore, patrols and monitoring are expected to be intensified across the area.

Authorities have urged residents to remain indoors during restricted hours. Furthermore, they were encouraged to cooperate with security operatives and share useful information.

The curfew was first imposed after deadly attacks in Angwan Rukuba. At least 33 people were killed during the violence.

However, unrest has not been limited to one location. Meanwhile, fresh incidents have been reported in Jos South, Barkin Ladi, and Riyom.

Despite the easing, officials insist that peace is still fragile. In addition, security presence has been increased to prevent further breakdown of order.

The government noted that calm has gradually returned to Jos North. However, authorities remain cautious as tensions could rise again without warning.

The Jos curfew relaxation follows an earlier 48-hour total lockdown imposed after the attacks.

Now, the gradual easing reflects a careful balance between restoring normalcy and maintaining security.
