The Nollywood industry has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of popular diminutive actress Aunty Ajara, after a prolonged battle with liver disease.
Aunty Ajara’s death was confirmed on Tuesday morning, barely a week after fellow actors publicly sought donations to support her medical care.
The news has therefore deepened the sadness surrounding what many hoped would end in recovery.
According to close sources, the actress had been seriously ill for some time. However, her condition reportedly worsened despite sustained medical attention and support from well-meaning Nigerians.
In a widely shared appeal last week, her team explained the severity of the crisis.
They said, “Ajara’s health condition has become more critical despite all the efforts so far. So much has already been spent on her treatment, with generous support from kind-hearted celebrities, actors, and individuals yet the situation is getting worse.”
Moreover, the statement stressed the urgency of her situation, adding, “At this point, we urgently need more financial assistance to keep her fighting. Any amount, any support, any share can make a difference. Please help us save a life.”
Meanwhile, hope dimmed further when her colleague, Mama Nonetwork, gave an emotional update earlier this week. She revealed that Aunty Ajara’s health was not improving as expected.
In addition, Mama Nonetwork said it was found that the actress was pregnant. She explained that the pregnancy was discovered in December and that Ajara was advised to seek immediate medical care due to her fragile state. However, her condition remained unstable.
Sadly, despite prayers and intervention, the actress passed away.
Aunty Ajara was known for her comic timing and relatable screen presence. She appeared in several Yoruba films and built a loyal fan base over the years. Her small stature never limited her impact, as she often delivered memorable performances.
