Update: Anthony Joshua Stable After Lagos-Ibadan Road Tragedy

World boxing champion Anthony Joshua is recovering in hospital after a shocking road accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The unexpected crash happened around midday and has since drawn national and international attention.

The incident, which claimed two lives, has cast a dark cloud over what was meant to be a calm period.

According to official reports, the accident involved a Toyota Lexus jeep conveying Anthony Joshua and three other occupants.

Tragically, two passengers died on the spot, turning the event into a national concern.

The victims were identified as Ayodele Kelvin Olu, 36, a Nigerian-British citizen, and Gami Sina, 36, a British citizen.

The Ogun State Government later confirmed the incident in a formal statement.

The statement was signed by the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Hon. Kayode Akinmade.

It expressed deep sympathy to the families affected by the loss.

Meanwhile, Anthony Joshua was rushed to hospital, where he is currently receiving medical care. Government officials said his condition has been stabilised.

This development brought relief to fans across Nigeria and beyond.

“Upon receiving information about the accident, Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, visited the hospital where Joshua was receiving treatment.”

“He was later joined by Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu. Both governors remained at the hospital for several hours to oversee the situation and ensure that appropriate medical care was provided.”

Governor Abiodun later explained his personal involvement in Joshua’s treatment.
“As soon as I was informed, I headed straight to the hospital and was later joined by the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu. We both took charge of the situation, oversaw Anthony Joshua’s care, and remained at the hospital for over seven hours,” he said.

In addition, several top government officials paid visits to the hospital. They included the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun. The Director-General of the National Sports Commission, Mr. Bukola Olopade, was also present.

Furthermore, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was fully briefed on the situation. Sources disclosed that the President reached out personally. He reportedly spoke with Anthony Joshua, his mother, and Governor Abiodun.

Moreover, the British High Commission was informed about the crash. Its Deputy Head of Mission, Mr. Simon Field, later visited the hospital.

He met with Joshua and the two governors, while families of the deceased were contacted.

The Ogun State Government confirmed that Joshua remains in stable condition.

“We are comfortable with the doctors and the quality of care at the hospital, and we appreciate the medical team for their professionalism,” Governor Abiodun said.

Authorities have, therefore, ordered a full investigation into the crash. Findings are expected to be made public at a later date.
Updates will also be shared as the investigation progresses.

Quoting President Tinubu, Governor Abiodun added, “This immense tragedy has cast a deep shadow over this season. These are very difficult moments, and we must stand firm, united, and encourage one another as brothers and sisters with a shared destiny.”
