The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed claims that a court stopped it from enforcing the Motor Vehicle Tinted Glass law starting October 2, 2025.
Over the weekend, some Nigerians circulated reports suggesting the police had been barred due to a case filed by the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
They argued that the enforcement would contradict the pending suit challenging the authority of the law.
However, police spokesperson CSP Benjamin Hundeyin clarified that no such order exists.
In a statement on his official X handle, he confirmed that enforcement would proceed as scheduled.
In Jigawa State, authorities have already begun sensitizing motorists about compliance.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam, announced the process in Dutse on Saturday, September 20.
He stressed that motorists must apply only through the official government portal, possp.gov.ng, to avoid fraud.
Applicants are expected to create accounts using their NIN, BVN, or TIN, verify their email, and then select the “Tinted Glass Permit” option.
“Applicants must carefully confirm all details before submitting their requests and making payments as directed on the portal,” Adam explained.
After completing the online stage, applicants will be scheduled for vehicle inspection and fingerprint biometric capturing at designated Police Intelligence Departments.
In Jigawa, the biometric capturing will be free of charge and handled at the State Intelligence Department, Police Headquarters, Dutse.
Adam said this step was meant to encourage compliance and prevent motorists from being exploited by unauthorized middlemen.
