Nigerian actor and comedian Debo Adebayo, better known as Mr Macaroni, has publicly criticised Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), over her comment regarding Fuji legend Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as KWAM1.
The controversy began after an incident last Tuesday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
KWAM1 reportedly clashed with Value Jet staff when stopped from boarding with a flask allegedly containing alcohol.
According to the flight’s pilot, Captain Ranti Ogoyi, the singer spilled the contents of the flask on her during attempts to resolve the matter.
Witnesses claim KWAM1 later stood in front of the aircraft in protest, narrowly avoiding being struck as it taxied for departure.
Following heavy criticism from the public, KWAM1 issued an apology to President Bola Tinubu, the flight captain, his fans, and anyone offended by his actions.
Abike Dabiri-Erewa, a known friend of the musician, posted a video of his apology on social media, captioning it: “Kwam1’s apology on the airport incident. To err is human.”
However, many Nigerians found the post dismissive of the seriousness of the incident.
Mr Macaroni expressed disappointment, accusing Dabiri-Erewa of setting a harmful example.
In a post on X, he wrote: “Ma, I just want to say that this is highly reprehensible. You don’t deserve to hold a public office. You have set a very dangerous precedent with this tweet. You have told Nigerians it is okay to commit a crime and can issue an apology to absolve yourself without consequences.”
The comedian’s remarks have since gone viral, meanwhile, Dabiri-Erewa has not publicly responded to Macaroni’s criticism.
