EFCC Grants Bail to VeryDarkMan After Financial Allegations

Popular social media critic Martins Innocent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has been granted administrative bail by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), marking a major relief for his fans and supporters.

The announcement came on Monday through the Commission’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, who confirmed that Otse would be released after meeting all bail conditions.

This comes days after his arrest, which was linked to serious claims of financial crimes.

According to the EFCC, the arrest was made based on several petitions that accused Otse of financial misconduct.

Despite being invited multiple times, the commission said he failed to respond.

“The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), in the exercise of its mandate of tackling economic and financial crimes, invited Martins Vincent Otse owing to a series of petitions bordering on sundry issues of alleged financial crimes raised against him,” the agency explained in a statement released on its X platform.

It continued, “He refused to show up in spite of several invitations sent to him through his known addresses and medium of communication. The petitions pertain to grave allegations of financial malfeasance which cannot be ignored by the commission.”

Fans of the controversial activist have been vocal about their support for his release.

Meanwhile, Oyewale clarified that the Commission was operating within its legal rights.

“The EFCC has a lawful right to hold Otse in custody like any other suspect being investigated by the commission. The appropriate Remand Order was obtained in this regard,” he stated.

He further added, “He has been offered an administrative bail and would be released after fulfilling all the bail conditions.”

However, it is clear that public support played a significant role in maintaining attention on his case.
