Culprit‘General Odiereke’s death:Police restores peace in Rivers after 8 years of manhunt

The community of Ahoada Local Government Area of Rivers State were thrown into jubilation and excitement after hearing the death of the notorious popular cult leader Izuma Odiereke also known as “General Odiereke” killed by the police.

In a statement issued on Mondayby the Commissioner of Police in Rivers,CP Olatunji Disu,he said that the suspected cult leader had been on the run since 2016 after being linked with multiply assassinations and unlawful killings in the state including murder, kidnapping and arson.

Disu alleged that the deceased cult leader and his accomplices were responsible for the killing of a prominent traditional ruler in the state on Feb. 2. He also listed over ten individuals killed by Odiereke’s Greenland Cult during his reign of terror, including the notable paramount ruler, Sampson, who fell victim to the gangster on February 2, 2024.

He commended the officers of the Ahoada Area Command and Division for their dedication and urged them to remain steadfast in their commitment to maintaining peace and security in the region with the expression of gratitude to the local community for their cooperation, providing crucial intelligence and credible information to aid law enforcement efforts.

“General Odereke, notorious for his reign of terror in Ahoada West LGA, has finally been brought to justice. Known as a murderer since 2016, his brutal activities came to an end when law enforcement authorities launched an operation against his camp located in Api forest, between Odiereke Ubie and JK4. General Odereke’s actions have claimed the lives of numerous innocent individuals, and the operation aimed to put an end to his reign of terror.”

“Among his victims were Buduka Egbe, Eric Joel, Chizhim Vincent Onwukwe, and Onye Richard Nwanaka, who tragically lost their lives in the Owube community. Chief Chibuike Victor survived the attack despite sustaining multiple gunshot wounds on December 1, 2022. Additionally, Umeshem Part was killed, while Gift Ude survived after being shot by General Odereke. The general also engaged in arson, burning down houses such as Eric Joel’s and Chief Seji Ebenezer’s, as well as perpetrating kidnappings and extortion, targeting individuals like Mr. Chidi Doukubo, Ernest Frank, Mrs. Nincy Okpai, and more.”

“Odereke’s atrocities extended to various communities, including Odereke Cmt, where he killed Victor Asian. On August 10, 2023, he orchestrated the kidnapping of ten individuals in the JK3 community. On February 14, 2024, at Ihuechi along Ubeta, he ruthlessly murdered King Sampson, Sunday Bani, Pastor Bani Udoma, and Echila Clever. Moreover, he carried out kidnappings in Obrama, Owube, Ikodi, Ombor, and Odereke, along with countless other crimes that may not be immediately recollected,” he said.

This happened a month after the case of 2baba, a cult leader responsible for the murder of a divisional police in the area.
