Benue State Police Command has reported the killing of one individual and the arrest of three suspects involved in armed robberies and cult-related activities within Makurdi, the state’s capital.
This is contained in a press release signed by the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Sewuese Anene, on Monday.
According to the statement, the police action followed credible intelligence concerning the operations of an armed robbery syndicate in the Kighir, Kanshio, and Adeke communities.
Despite the police’s arrival at the scene, the suspects engaged them in a shootout, resulting in one of the suspects sustaining gunshot wounds. As at receiving treatment at a hospital, this individual succumbed to his injuries and was subsequently placed in the hospital morgue.
Additional members of the gang, identified as Tersoo Akatakpo (known as “General”), Gowon Akatakpo, Ikya Chahul Atseriyol, and Terver Iortimdee, were taken into custody.Items recovered from the suspects included a single-barrel gun, two locally crafted pistols, five live cartridges, four spent cartridge shells, two Dane guns, a red beret with the JVC logo, and three mobile phones believed to be stolen.
Furthermore, the suspects later confessed to their affiliation with the Junior Vickings Confraternity (JVC) and their involvement in armed robbery.They are set to face legal proceedings in court once the investigations are finalised.
