Ortom breaks silence on reported arrest by EFCC

The immediate past governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, has debunked reports alleging that he was arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

Reports had earlier emerged on social media that the former governor was taken into custody by the anti-graft agency in Makurdi on Monday. However, Ortom in a statement issued on Tuesday night by his media aide, Terver Akase, said he only honoured an invitation by the EFCC.

According to the statement, Ortom “was neither arrested nor detained at the EFCC Zonal Headquarters in Makurdi”.The statement reads partly, “Contrary to insinuations in some sections of the media, the immediate past Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom today visited the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC to honour the invitation of the commission.“The former Governor has repeatedly said that he is available to respond to inquiries by anti-graft agencies as he has nothing to hide regarding his stewardship of Benue State.”
