Man commits suicide after talking to AI chatbot for six weeks

An unknown man committed suicide after chats with an AI Chatbot named Eliza about his global warming fears in Belgium.

From a report on Thursday, the man ,learnt to be in his thirties, found peace talking to the AI chatbot named ‘Eliza’ about his concerns about the state of the world and he had been using the bot for several years, but six weeks before his death, he began using it more frequently.

However, six weeks before his death, the man began using the chatbot more frequently and intensely. He later committed suicide.

The chatbot’s software was created by a US Silicon Valley start-up and is powered by GPT-J technology – an open-source alternative to Open-AI’s ChatGPT.Conversations between the man and the chatbot began two years ago
